nullArtist: Alfred G. Strassner

A resident in Clarkston N.Y. was an passionate artist. While growing up, it was clear that Al had natural talent. He attended Jefferson High School in Rochester N.Y. He was awarded two Schoolastic key award scholarships and one honorable mention in an annual art show sponsered by Sibley, Lindsay and Curr.

Al also took classes at the Memorial Art Gallery and RIT in Rochester, N.Y. Shortly after Al joined the Navy he became “THE” ships artist. Al did a cartoon strip for a weekly paper called the “St. John Inlander” for the time of his service. He also kept busy doing portraits, oil paintings and murals. It was plain to see that Al loved to create and art was very much a part of him.

After the service he worked at IBP. He was employed as an arch welder and became the IBP cartoonist for their weekly puplication. Al raised seven children and enjoyed sketching every one of them. May they be sleeping in their cradle or sitting in their high chair they were sketched. In 1992, Al became a member of the Suburban Art Group. Now Al enjoys working in his home studio. Along with oil painting Al has tried a wide variety of art that include water colors, pastels, clay sculptures and carvings, but he always stays true to his passion for oil painting. Most of his artwork has been dedicated to the vanishing Native Americans.
